Biography

Mary Walton Upchurch grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and graduated with honors from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a degree in landscape architecture.
For more than thirty years, she practiced in Montgomery as an award-winning landscape architect specializing in site design.
For four years she wrote a monthly article on gardening and garden design in Montgomery! Magazine, circulation 10,000. Articles included “Marching on Moscow” and “Armchair Gardening.”
She began writing romantic fiction and spent ten years researching and crafting The Garden at Sandys Hall A Love Story. She is now seeking representation for her novel.
Mary Walton has also written a children’s story, Grandmother’s Garden. She is currently seeking representation for this book too.
In 2009 Mary Walton moved to western North Carolina where she built a home and garden on top of a mountain with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
There, she landscapes with clouds, writes, paints, and follows Voltaire’s advice: cultiver mon jardin (to cultivate my own garden.)
